VERAM provides administrative expertise and support to our principal investigators and their staff in securing external funding for their projects and educational activities. We assist in the following areas:

Protection of Human Subjects, Institutional Review Board
VERAM relies on the VAAAHs’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) in assuring the safety of human subjects. Consistent with the authority provided in 38 CFR §16.114, VERAM established under 38 USC §§7361-7368 and VAAAHS wish to avoid duplication of effort in the oversight of cooperatively conducted human studies research. Recognizing that VERAM research is VA-approved research subject to policies and procedures contained in VA manuals, regulations and statutes, VERAM and VAAAHS agree that all oversight for such studies will be provided by VAAAHS and its IRB including:
- Monitoring review and approval of projects and related documentation to ensure compliance with human subject protection requirements
- Monitoring the performance of studies to ensure compliance with human subject protection requirements
- Providing investigators and other relevant personnel with mandatory training and monitoring compliance with training requirements
